Terms of service

These terms are an agreement between you and Smith Web Apps, LLC [TODO: state of organization], the maker of Longbox Ledger. By creating an account you accept them. We have tried to keep them short, plain, and free of surprises; the promises here match how the product actually behaves.

The service

Longbox Ledger is a private tracker for comic book collections: what you own, where it lives, what you paid, what you believe it is worth, and the records that make an insurance claim or an estate handoff manageable. It is a personal record-keeping tool, not a marketplace, a price guide, or an appraisal service.

Your account

Keep your sign-in credentials to yourself and give us a working email address so receipts, resets, and the one trial reminder can reach you. An account is for one person. You are responsible for what happens under your account.

Trial, billing, and what happens if you stop paying

Every account starts with a 30 day free trial of everything, no card required. If you do nothing when it ends, you are never charged: the account simply goes read-only.

Paid plans are $3.99 a month or $39 a year. Both renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from your billing page; your access runs to the end of the period you paid for, and no further charges happen. Payments are processed by Stripe. [TODO: refund policy. Suggested plain default: no partial-period refunds, since access runs to period end; goodwill exceptions at our discretion via support.]

A lapsed account (trial over, or subscription ended) is read-only, not gone: you can still sign in, see everything, and export everything, indefinitely. We do not delete your records for not paying. Subscribing again picks up where you left off. [TODO: legal review on whether to reserve a right to purge accounts abandoned for some long period, e.g. years of inactivity, with email notice first.]

If prices ever change, existing subscribers get clear notice before any new price takes effect. [TODO: notice period wording.]

Photo scans

Accounts include 20 photo scans a month at no extra cost. Scans are for cataloguing your own collection; automated bulk use or resale of the scanning feature is not allowed. How scan photos are handled is covered in the privacy policy.

Your data stays yours

Everything you enter belongs to you. You give us permission to store and process it only as needed to run the service for you, and nothing else. Every account, including a read-only one, can export all of its data, free, at any time. Deleting your account permanently erases it and everything in it.

The software, design, and the Longbox Ledger name belong to Smith Web Apps, LLC. Bibliographic catalog data comes from the Grand Comics Database under the Creative Commons BY-SA 4.0 license; see about the data.

Values are your estimates, not appraisals

Value figures in Longbox Ledger are numbers you entered. The app tracks and charts them and combines them with what you paid, but it does not appraise, grade, or price comics, and nothing in it is financial, insurance, or investment advice. Reports you generate, including the insurance and estate PDF, present your own records; whether an insurer or anyone else accepts them is between you and them.

Acceptable use

Do not use the service for anything unlawful, try to access other users' data, probe or overload the systems, or resell access. We can suspend or close accounts that do, and when reasonably possible we will still honor the export promise first. [TODO: legal review of the suspension/export interplay.]

The service is provided as-is

We work hard to keep Longbox Ledger accurate, available, and safe, and we back your data with routine backups. Still, the service is provided as-is, without warranties, and our liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before a claim.
